Fabrizio Romano confirms Erik ten Hag move to Manchester United as new permanent manager set to be completed

According to football journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Manchester United are set to complete the appointment of Erik ten Hag as their new permanent manager and finally end their hunt for the person to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Norwegian was sacked late last year after dragging the side through a string of bad results that saw them slip down the Premier League, and Ralf Rangnick was brought in on an interim basis until the summer to steady the ship.

The interim boss is expected to make way for a new permanent head coach at the end of his tenure, and now it seems as though ten Hag is the name that United have settled on to succeed the former RB Leipzig manager.

The Dutchman is currently in charge of Ajax Amsterdam, with whom he has won back-to-back Eredivisie titles and multiple cup competitions. This season too, he is on course to win more trophies as he aims to complete a hat-trick of league titles in the Netherlands.

Announcement expected after discussions

Romano has now revealed that the Red Devils and Ajax are in contact with each other to discuss a fee of around €2m to release ten Hag from his contract with the Dutch giants. This would form the basis of when the Manchester side could make an announcement regarding their new appointment.

Meanwhile, other particulars such as his contract have been agreed. The 52-year-old may also bring alongside his current assistant Mitchell van der Gaag to Old Trafford, who is said to be the priority candidate for the coaching staff.

After impressing in his native country, it now looks like ten Hag is about to take the next big step in his managerial career by taking responsibility for leading one of the world’s biggest clubs in United. The Ajax coach has almost won it all in Holland, and the time looks to be right to take on his next accomplishment.

The vacancy at the Theatre of Dreams is not something to take lightly, with multiple candidates trying their best in the past to take the club back to glory like in the Sir Alex Ferguson era. That will be ten Hag’s biggest test as manager, to see whether he can be the one to break the Red Devils’ current trophy drought.

He has never managed outside the Eredivisie, so it will be interesting to see whether he will be able to implement his ideas and methods in the Premier League, which is one of Europe’s most physical, fast-paced, and demanding competitions.

We have seen him work his magic in Holland with Ajax over the past few years, so the expectation is that he continues waving his wand in England and winning titles. United fans will certainly be looking forward to the official announcement from the club, and seeing what awaits them beyond the summer.
