Bayern Munich chief sends Robert Lewandowski transfer message amidst Manchester United links

Bayern Munich chief Oliver Kahn is adamant that Robert Lewandowski will not be sold in the summer transfer window amidst links to Manchester United. His future at Allianz Arena has been up for talks over the past few weeks due to the uncertainty surrounding his contract situation.

Lewandowski has a contract with Bayern Munchen, which will expire in 2023. A renewal has not taken place just yet, which has seen him get linked with a move elsewhere. Man United, alongside Arsenal, have been touted to make a big-money move for the striker this summer. However, that seems not to be on the cards from this latest update.

Speaking in an interview with Amazon Prime (h/t The Sun), Kahn has revealed that negotiations over a contract extension have begun between Bayern and the Polish international for quite some time. The club chief further added that the forward will not leave them under any circumstances after this term.

“We have a contract with Robert. We’ve always said that we’d start talks. We started doing that a long time ago. He will stay with us. Robert knows what he has in Bayern. We know what we have in him.”

Kahn’s words are not the least bit surprising as the 33-year-old is one of the best strikers in world football at this moment. Even though his contract is winding down, a potential stay is still on the cards, which means that the Bavarian giants have no incentive to sell him this summer.

Regardless, this update would undoubtedly be a blow for us as we could have used the Bundesliga attacker’s services. Having scored 47 goals and assisted four times from 41 matches this season, it is no wonder why clubs like Atletico Madrid have shown an interest in him alongside us as well.

Barcelona were leading the race to facilitate a move for the Bayern striker, but the claim has been shut down following this update. Now, the Manchester board would we smart to divert their attention and look for other targets who can lead our forward line from the next campaign onwards.

While Cristiano Ronaldo is still in our squad, his displays this season have indicated that we need to find someone else to lead us moving forward. Edinson Cavani is nearing the end of his deal, and he is expected to depart Old Trafford this summer.

That leaves Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, but both of them have struggled with form throughout this term. Hence, the club should shortlist other potential targets who can spearhead our attack beyond this summer.

Anthony Elanga has looked comfortable out wide while Mason Greenwood’s suspension means we really need an out-and-out striker; one that can contribute in the present but also lead our line in the coming years. Cavani and Ronaldo were short-term solutions but we would be wise to think for the long term right now.

Whether the 33-year-old Polish superstar has that level of longevity remains to be seen. But as it seems, Bayern may well hold onto him for another season.
