Transfer News: Liverpool set to bid for Manchester United target Gleison Bremer
According to Italian publication Tuttojuve (h/t The Sun), Liverpool are set to make a bid for Manchester United target Gleison Bremer in the summer transfer window. He has been one of the best performers for Torino this season as their defence has helped them compete for a top-half finish in the Serie A table.
Bremer has been a commanding presence at the back for the Italian side this campaign, which has attracted attention from some of the major European clubs. Man United have expressed an interest to secure his services, but they will now face added competition from the Reds.
Jurgen Klopp’s side is looking to make a bid worth £25million this summer to facilitate a move for the Brazilian. The Red Devils will face competition from a host of other clubs like Chelsea, Arsenal, Juventus and Bayern Munich in this transfer race as well.
Man Utd must retaliate!
We are desperate for defensive reinforcements this summer, looking at the dire situation in the centre-back area. Phil Jones and Eric Bailly simply must be moved on if we have plans to raise our level to compete at the top. They are past their best selves and cannot be depended upon for longer.
Harry Maguire’s struggles in the backline have been well documented, which in and of itself calls for the need for signing a central defender. While he has been made a scapegoat far too often, we simply cannot ignore how he has had a poor campaign so far and that some competition may benefit him.
Even Raphael Varane has failed to hit his peak form, which was not helped by the regular injury issues he has been suffering from for quite a while. Bremer would undoubtedly boost our depth as he has been one of the more impressive defenders in Serie A this term.
However, the Mancunians must plan an offensive at the earliest, especially when the Merseyside club is apparently looking to bid for Bremer this summer. It can’t be denied that they are in a far better state than us right now but that makes it all the more important for us to close the gap in quality with our fiercest rivals.
Liverpool already boast defenders such as Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Joel Matip, and Joe Gomez at the back. Adding Bremer to the mix would sort out their backline for years to come. United, on the other hand, perhaps only have Varane and Victor Lindelof that have had a decent season overall.

We cannot take the other rivals lightly either, although the Blues’ transfer ban does give us an edge over them for now. That could change if the ownership uncertainty is taken care of, but we would be smart to push ahead with a move to bring the 25-year-old to Old Trafford.
Let’s wait and see how this situation will pan out in the coming months ahead of the next season. Fans would hope to see the Serie A ace in our ranks this summer, but whether that will happen or not remains to be seen. The quoted fee, after all, is not too shabby considering a player of his age profile.
