Merseyside Police starts investigation on Cristiano Ronaldo rage incident after Manchester United vs Everton
According to The Independent, Merseyside Police has opened an investigation regarding a rage incident that allegedly involved Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo following the 1-0 loss to Everton. The Manchester United talisman appears to have lashed out at a fan as he was walking down the tunnel.
The incident has been shared across social media where Ronaldo seems to have smashed a Toffees supporter’s mobile phone onto the ground. Witnesses say the force at which he knocked the phone out of the young fan’s hand was appalling as he trodded down the tunnel after the incident. Police have been made aware of it, and they have now issued a response to the incident.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police released a statement revealing that they are looking into the supposed assault involving Cristiano. He added that extensive enquiries are taking place at this moment, and the CCTV footage is also being checked to get a detailed review of the incident.
“We can confirm that we are liaising with Manchester United Football Club and Everton FC following reports of an alleged assault at the Everton v Manchester United football match at Goodison. As players were leaving the pitch at 2.30 pm, it was reported that a boy was assaulted by one of the away team as they left the pitch. Inquiries are underway and officers are currently working with Everton Football Club to review CCTV footage and are carrying out extensive witness enquiries to establish if an offence has taken place. Unacceptable!
The Portuguese international must be reprimanded for this supposed incident as his lashing out cannot be justified in any case. We did suffer a damning defeat at the hands of the Merseyside club, and the players would undoubtedly be angry and disappointed with the result.
However, that does not give a licence to act as one wants, especially in the way that the 37-year-old allegedly reacted. As such, it is good to know that the superstar publicly apologised on his official Instagram handle. He finally invited the fan to watch a match at Old Trafford as a token of his regret.
“It’s never easy to deal with emotions in difficult moments such as the one we are facing. Nevertheless, we always have to be respectful, patient and set the example for all the youngsters who love the beautiful game. I would like to apologise for my outburst and, if possible, I would like to invite this supporter to watch a game at Old Trafford as a sign of fair play and sportsmanship.”

We hope that the supporter who has been on the receiving end of this alleged outburst can forgive the former Real Madrid man and accept his apology. As for the Red Devils, they must make sure that the forward is given a stern talking to regarding the matter as he is supposed to set an example to those youngsters who look up to him.
It remains to be seen how this situation will develop in the coming days and what will the response be to Ronaldo’s apology. We hope that a peaceful solution can be found at the earliest by giving the young fan adequate compensation for the trouble he went through.
