Ralf Rangnick underlines Manchester United issue that led to 1-0 Everton defeat
Ralf Rangnick has underlined the issue that resulted in Manchester United losing to Everton by a 1-0 scoreline. This damning defeat saw his side fall even further in their pursuit to finish in the top four places of the Premier League table.
Man United struggled once again to break down an opposition defence convincingly, but this time it was the Toffees. They have the fifth-worst defensive set-up in the league this season, making the 1-0 scoreline even more embarrassing for the visitors. Rangnick has chipped in with his thoughts on the matter and explained what they need to do to get better from here on out.
Speaking in the pre-match presser (h/t Manchester United official website), the German coach has revealed that the Red Devils are finding it difficult to create scoring opportunities in the past few weeks. He added that they need to be more cohesive in close quarters and find openings for teammates.
“Well, I said to the team we have to stick together, try to get better, to find more solutions in possession of the ball and our problem right now is not so much that we concede too many goals. Yes, with a clean sheet we would have had a point today but even a point would not have been enough. The last few games we’ve struggled to score goals and to create chances. I think we were better at that four or five weeks ago – even against Watford at home – but today we just didn’t create enough opportunities ourselves.”
A stark change is needed!
Looking at our past seven matches, it is pretty clear how we have struggled to create clear cut chances, which has led to our recent drop in form. We had failed to score more than once during that period, with the only exception being the 3-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the league.
We cannot take that into consideration as that result was merely a “one-man performance” in the sense that Cristiano Ronaldo had one of his best performances of this season. If it was a one-off fixture, then it could have been swept aside as a bad day in the office, but that is not the case here.
Our chances of qualifying for the next campaign’s Champions League would now depend upon our direct rivals dropping points which is not ideal at all. However, as unlikely as it may be, football is always unpredictable, and we saw teams lose out on the league when it was “sure” that they would win.

For us to have such a chance, there needs to be a turnaround in fortunes as early as possible. We did create some opportunities today, and Jordan Pickford was excellent on the day as well, but we have certainly fallen off in our ability to generate when compared to our team a month or so back.
Let’s hope that we can overcome this problem at the earliest to have even a slight shot at finishing in the top four places.
