Transfer News: Sevilla will not keep on loan Manchester United striker Anthony Martial beyond the summer
According to Football Transfers (h/t Express), Manchester United will welcome back striker Anthony Martial in the summer when his loan spell at Sevilla expires, with the La Liga side not keen on a permanent move for the player.
Martial moved to the Spanish club in the winter transfer window, looking to gain more first-team minutes elsewhere after being relegated to the bench this season in Manchester.
Now, it is said that despite being happy with the forward’s performances for them the past few months, they are not looking to sign him permanently at the end of his loan spell. This may provide a boost for United as they have struggled for goals this season.
Martial has seen himself fall in the pecking order at United recently, as he has been behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani for a place in the starting XI. Though the pair are arguably two of the world’s best strikers on their day, both are in their late 30s, and it reflects poorly on the Frenchman that he found it tough to get a game ahead of them.
Resist new forward signing
It is said that Sevilla director Monchi was keen on Martial only to challenge Real Madrid this season for the La Liga title. So far, they have not shown any indication to keep him permanently next season or even extend his loan.
If so, it remains to be seen if the France international’s return in the summer to Manchester could mean that we don’t look for signings up front. While there is no indication that the club will sign a forward in the summer, Cristiano Ronaldo’s age, Mason Greenwood’s suspension and Edinson Cavani’s contract are just three reasons that would convince most of the fans that we need to strengthen in that area.
The striker has not been at his productive best for United the past few seasons, with the forward not able to regularly contribute to goals or make an impact in a string of games. It is perhaps for this very reason that he was dropped to the bench to make way for others.
Apart from his fantastic debut season, only the 2019/20 season can arguably be considered Martial’s best time at Old Trafford, when the former Monaco man played as the team’s number 9 and proved to be an effective goalscorer. Since then, however, his form has plunged.

The next few months at Sevilla could be crucial for Martial’s future in England, as the club will need to make a decision regarding his future. If he can find his scoring boots again, then United may consider holding on to the striker for yet another season as they require a goalscoring outlet.
For the sake of the player, we can hope that he picks up form soon and returns to Manchester as a proven striker. He has featured in 4 games for Los Nervionenses so far, with a goal and an assist to his name. Sevilla, meanwhile, trail Los Blancos by 5 points, having played one more game than them in La Liga.
