According to Sport Bild via Sport Witness (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United are ready to pay the release clause of Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland.

The Norwegian is one of the best young strikers in world football. He has developed into a goalscoring machine and is one of the finest players in the world at the tender age of 21.

Haaland has scored 19 goals and made five assists in just 16 appearances this season. A player who is yet to hit his prime, it is exciting to imagine him donning the Man United jersey in the future.

The player’s €75m release clause comes into effect next summer and Man United are ready to make their move to land him. Given Haaland’s current skills and future potential, the amount could prove to be a snip in the long run.

Interim manager Ralf Rangnick is keen to bring the player to Old Trafford and the club appear to be ready to make their move to achieve just that.

Given that his release clause gets active next summer, Man United are unlikely to have a free run at landing their man. Haaland’s potential is sure to attract the attention of the top sides from across Europe and the Norwegian can have his pick should he choose to do so.

A proven partnership.

While Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani are both solid options up front, both of them are in the twilight of their career. Signing Haaland will give the Red Devils a proven long term option and a worthy successor to their veteran duo.

There is also the prospect that Haaland can go on to re-form his prolific partnership with Jadon Sancho at Old Trafford. Both players struck the right chord during Sancho’s stint at Dortmund.

More Manchester United News

Players of Haaland’s ability do not come by very often and Man United for one blew the opportunity to sign him on a cheap deal in the past. Whether they will cough up what is needed or once again fall short remains to be seen.

But if they do, we could have a long-term goal-getter amongst our ranks who can even potentially pair up with the legendary Cristiano Ronaldo for a short time.
