Manchester United in advanced stages to sign Marseille ace Boubacar Kamara
According to the Catalan publication El Nacional (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United are in the advanced stages of signing Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara amidst interest from Barcelona. He has become a regular for his side and has earned plaudits for his performances of late.
Kamara will see his contract with the French club expire at the end of the current campaign. Since he would become a free agent next summer, he could reach a pre-contract agreement with other clubs in the January transfer window. That would make him a valuable asset as he would be available on a cheap or for nothing in the future if an extension is not signed.
Man United will have to battle the Blaugrana club, but the former is currently leading the transfer race for the Frenchman. When he initially emerged, many did not expect him to develop as much, but he has improved a lot and has emerged as a key player for the Ligue 1 club.
An exciting talent!
Primarily a defensive midfielder, he can also play as a centre-back on both sides of the defence. It would be a valuable quality to possess when playing as the pivot where he would have to drop into the backline if needed. His versatility makes him an attractive option.
We do not have many options in the defensive midfield role, with Fred, Scott McTominay and Nemanja Matic being the only options in that position. This has created an imbalance between attack and defence.
Matic cannot be relied on for too many years since he is in the latter stages of his career whereas, the Brazilian and the Scottish international lack key traits in their game. However, we lack backup, and an injury or a suspension could derail our chances in a long season.

The 22-year-old has featured in 19 games this season and has helped his club to nine clean sheets in the process. His ability to ensure stability could help us find the right balance within the team while pushing others to do their best because of the increased competition. Time will tell whether we would end up buying him to address our issue in midfield or not.
