Edwin van der Sar: Manchester United star Dean Henderson to Ajax in January makes no sense
Edwin van der Sar was adamant that a transfer to Ajax Amsterdam in January makes no sense for Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson. The latter was involved in talks over a loan move due to the lack of minutes under the Red Devils shirt when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was still the manager.
Henderson was tipped to take over the role from David De Gea, who had a terrible run of form, which saw him make several plunders, costing his team in the process. The former initially took over the starting spot but, the competition helped De Gea regain his form and reach the earlier heights.
Speaking in an interview with Voetbal Primeur (h/t Manchester Evening News), Van der Sar has mentioned that there is zero chance for Henderson moving to Amsterdam in the winter transfer window. He even goes on to mock the transfer links that are generated in the current football world.
“I’ve heard nowadays you can pay €2,000 a month and hire media agencies to throw out nice stories about players into the world. I’m talking about social media, so to speak. You are continuously linked to players, whether they come from South America or Eastern Europe. But no, this makes no sense.”
What’s next?
It is tough to see the Englishman displace the Spaniard from the starting spot, judging from the form that the 31-year-old is in right now. The Spanish keeper was excellent in the recent game against Norwich City, where he helped his team to a win. He earned himself a clean sheet while saving the team on multiple occasions.
It is still early days as Ralf Rangnick is still trying to assess the squad to form an opinion on the players within the team. The 24-year-old featured against Young Boys, where he was in the starting lineup. He had impressed with a solid display however, it remains to be seen what lies in store for him moving forward.

If game time persists to be an issue, it would be wise to let Henderson leave on loan to gain valuable minutes. De Gea still has years left in him and would continue to pose an obstacle in his way. It would be better to let him gain experience and grow as a player elsewhere so that he would be valuable for us in the future.
