Manchester United interested in signing Barcelona full-back Sergino Dest
According to El Nacional (h/t Sportsmole), Manchester United have entered the race to sign USMNT star Sergino Dest from Barcelona.
The 21-year-old was Barcelona’s first American signing and joined the club in the summer of 2020. The right-back was signed to cover up for the sale of Nelson Semedo, who left the club to join Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers. Even though the American full-back showed positive attacking intent and creativity, he often fell short in his defensive duties.
Despite registering three assists in 13 La Lga appearances this season, the youngster has fallen down the pecking order under new manager Xavi. Whether this hints at his time at the Nou Camp coming to an end remains to be seen.
Meanwhile, Barcelona are currently in a bad financial situation. Thus, it is believed that they want to sell Dest in order to bolster their finances. The Catalan club are have valued the American player in the region of €30m (£25m).
Bayern Munich have shown an excessive amount of interest in the player in recent times. At the same time, Manchester City and Liverpool are also believed to be tracking his progress. Now, it seems Red Devils have entered the race.
Manchester United right-back Diogo Dalot has attracted interest from foreign teams in recent times. However, the arrival of Ralf Rangnick might have handed the youngster a new lease of life at Old Trafford. With Aaron Wan-Bissaka failing to develop his game in the last few years, time might be ripe for a change in personnel.
Unlike Wan-Bissaka. Dest is more of an attack-oriented player. At just 21, there is much hope that he can yet be moulded into a defensive star who can contribute at both ends.
Dest has been quite successful with his crosses and forward runs. The youngster has also earned a place in his national team and has been involved in some good attacking transitions. Pairing him up with Jadon Sancho could make us an overwhelming force in attack on the right flank.

Dest could become a regular provider for Manchester United’s stacked forward line-up. Cristiano Ronaldo has always appeared partial to a good cross. Thus, the American could fit perfectly well in the Red Devils squad.
