Transfer News: Newcastle United make massive offer to sign Barcelona ace Ousmane Dembele amidst Manchester United interest
According to transfer news on Mundo Deportivo (h/t Sports Mole), Manchester United have suffered a setback in their pursuit of Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele as Newcastle United have offered him a huge contract.
The French winger has been on the radar of several clubs as his contract is set to expire next summer. Barcelona boss Xavi is apparently keen on tying him down to a new deal, but an agreement is yet to be hashed out between all the concerned parties.
Newcastle United have now taken advantage of the situation by offering the 24-year-old a mega-contract. The Toon Army are thought to have offered Dembele him a deal worth €15million, with the same amount to be given to him as a signing-on bonus.
They are currently the richest club in the world, and this will certainly be a statement signing. However, it does not bode well for Man United, as they have also been linked with the player.
Do we need yet another winger?
There is no doubt that the French international is one heck of a talent on his day. However, the Red Devils already possess several high-flying attackers. Jadon Sancho was signed in the summer and is picking up the pace slowly, as witnessed by his mid-week goal against Villarreal.
Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood are also lying in the ranks, while Cristiano Ronaldo is as fit as a fiddle despite his age. Moreover, while signing Dembele on a free transfer could be a tempting proposition, there are bigger concerns in the squad to address.
