Edinson Cavani was unhappy when asked to hand over the No 7 jersey to Jadon Sancho at Manchester United

According to The Athletic (h/t Express), Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani was displeased when asked to give up the Number 7 jersey to fellow Manchester United teammate Jadon Sancho.

The 34-year-old Uruguayan striker made the switch to Man United in 2020. He signed a 2-year-deal with the Old Trafford outfit on a free transfer. His experience and positioning have played a pivotal role in this Manchester United forward lineup. He has scored 18 goals and provided 6 assists for the Red Devils in 47 matches across all competitions till now.

It is believed that Sancho was given the assurance that he would wear the No 7 jersey but had to ultimately settle for the No 25 at the moment. The Former PSG striker is said to be bemused by the suggestion that he would give away the iconic jersey number to someone who was 13 years younger.

It is also believed that Cavani wanted to move away from the club with Boca Juniors being the preferred destination but was told to stay put at Old Trafford. The whole saga may have confused the 21-year-old English international who is still struggling to find his feet at Manchester United.

The former Borussia Dortmund player is yet to register a goal or assist for the Red Devils ever since making the £73million switch. The young winger has struggled to cement his place in a team that is already filled with loads of talented attackers upfront such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford, and more.

Despite an impressive roster of forwards the Red Devils have struggled against the bigger teams this season. Humiliating defeats to arch-rivals Liverpool and Manchester City have only made the situation worse for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who is yet to win a trophy with this club as manager.

The Norwegian has tried to tweak his system on occasions but nothing seems to be working at the moment as the Old Trafford outfit has become heavily reliant on Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes to produce something magical in recent times. This combined with a shambolic defence has left supporters frustrated in the last few weeks.

Sancho was brought along with several expectations to the Red side of Manchester. He has struggled to get to terms with his new environment and the supporters would be hoping that he can start showing some semblance of his old form at Dortmund. The English attacker may not have gotten the iconic No 7 jersey at Old Trafford but is still highly looked upon by many from across the globe.
