Former English international tips PL manager for sensational return to Man United

Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson tips David Moyes for a sensational return to Manchester United

In conversation with Off The Ball (h/t ManchesterEvening News), former English professional footballer Mark Lawrenson has pushed David Moyes for a sensational return to Manchester United.

The Red Devils have had a string of poor performances in recent weeks. Cristiano Ronaldo and his heroics have helped them in the UEFA Champions League this season but their dreadful run in the Premier League seems to continue against the big clubs. They have succumbed to humiliating defeats from Liverpool, Manchester City as well as Leicester City this campaign.

David Moyes on the other hand is enjoying a great run of form with West Ham United. He has helped the Hammers progress in the last couple of seasons and led them to European Football this season. The former Everton manager seems to be building on the strong foundation of last season.

Moyes’ men just defeated Liverpool in their last Premier League fixture and that speaks about the volumes of potential and talent that his squad possess. He has rebuilt this team as they are currently sitting in 3rd position in England’s top-flight league.

Lawrenson spoke about the current turmoil and backed David Moyes to do a good job a second time around at Man United. He also highlighted the issues with his first stint as manager of the Red Devils:

“If anybody at the moment, you’d want Moyesey back would you not? I’m half-joking, but what I’m saying is you’d have him basically because he would sort all this out. He never really got the time there, and he never was going to get the time because he was the first one after Ferguson.”

The 58-year-old manager was always going to face a daunting challenge after taking over from Sir Alex Fergusson at Man United. His tenure at Old Trafford was filled with mixed views. The Scottish professional manager and none of his successors could remotely emulate the success that Fergusson brought to the Red Devils.

West Ham United are on the up and fringe midfielder Jesse Lingard enjoyed a pretty productive loan spell with the Hammers last season. He scored nine goals and provided five assists in 16 matches across all competitions for Moyes’s team last season. The 58-year-old manager is seemingly keen on bringing him back to West Ham.

Ole’s job is on the line and while the former Everton manager has done an excellent job at the London Stadium, it is highly unlikely that he would want a return to Old Trafford.
