Ed Woodward could make Ralf Rangnick the replacement to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United
According to ESPN (h/t The Express), Ed Woodward could hire Ralf Rangnick as a ‘short-term’ replacement for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United.
The German is currently the head of sports development at Lokomotiv Moscow but has a rich history in coaching. The 63-year-old orchestrated the rise of RB Leipzig from the fifth tier of German football to the Bundesliga. His pressing style of play is now used by the likes of Thomas Tuchel and Jurgen Klopp.
In fact, it is not just his contributions on the pitch that are admirable. The German has worked as a sporting director as well previously and was famous for spotting several new stars like Timo Werner and Sadio Mane– both of whom now ply their trade in the Premier League.
It is also said that Man United chief Ed Woodward was impressed with him during informal meetings in the past. This could influence his decision to replace Solskjaer with Rangnick in the coming weeks.
The results have been disastrous under the Norwegian and the defeat to Man City came at the worst possible time for him. However, this was always coming, given the odd tactics and lacklustre performances.
The former Leipzig man could be the one to take over at the helm if a change is considered. However, United only eye him as a short-term option and not as a long-term project manager. Fortunately for them, the German is ready to take up the position only as an interim boss, according to BILD journalist Christian Falk (h/t Daily Star).

But there is a catch here. Once his coaching role is completed, it is thought that Rangnick might want an off-the-pitch role at the club. This could prove to be an issue for club chiefs but there is no certainty over these demands.
Regardless, a change might happen sooner or later unless Solskjaer evades the sack during the international break and pulls off a good string of results.
