Erling Haaland urged to snub summer switch to Manchester United

According to Sport1 (h/t The Daily Star), Manchester United have been handed a massive blow in their efforts to sign Borussia Dortmund sensation Erling Haaland.

The youngster is already amongst the best players in the world. With his release clause set to kick in next summer, there is interest from the continent’s top teams to secure his services. However, Man United could already have been dealt a blow.

Haaland’s agent, Mino Raiola, has urged the striker to choose a move to Manchester City or Real Madrid over Old Trafford. Also representing Paul Pogba, the superagent has no love lost with respect to Man United.

Raiola has name-dropped four teams, none of them being Man United. He also particularly went on to describe the advantage Man City have over us today. Whether it was merely an observation or a jab at the Old Trafford outfit is debatable.

“Erling Haaland will take the next step. Bayern, Real, Barcelona, Man City – these are the big clubs he can join. Man City won the Premier League five times, significantly more than Man United.”

Haaland already has some affinity to Man City thanks to his father Alf-Inge Haaland. He was a former player for the Sky Blues, representing them between 2000 to 2003. Whether he too will go on to sport the jersey of our foes remains to be seen.

Raiola and United arent the best of friends

Raiola and Man United have a frosty relationship. With the Paul Pogba saga continuing to rumble on, the superagent will already be seeing much of the Red Devils this season.

Given that there is no love lost, one could potentially take him at his word that Haaland will be moving elsewhere.

More Manchester United News

The move to Dortmund was always going to be a temporary one for Haaland. With the 2021/22 season gathering steam, he could very well be enjoying his last hurrah at the Westfalenstadion.

Call it the case of ‘sour grapes’ but maybe it’s for the better that United don’t have to deal with another high-profile player being managed by Raiola. But then again if we do land the Norwegian goal machine, you wouldn’t hear many Red Devils complain about the signing.
