Flamengo chief Rodrigo Tostes reveals stance over permanent transfer for Manchester United loanee Andreas Pereira
Speaking in an interview, as reported by Sport Witness (h/t The Sun), Flamengo vice-president Rodrigo Tostes has revealed that they are unsure over signing Manchester United loanee Andreas Pereira on a permanent transfer.
The 25-year-old struggled for game-time under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and had to go out on loan spells to Granada, Lazio, and Valencia. However, despite all the game-time at those clubs, he never made it up the pecking order at Old Trafford.
Thus, the midfielder sealed a loan move back to his home country, with Flamengo snapping up the player. So far, the Brazilian has paid off the club’s decision to add him to their ranks as he has scored three goals in 14 games. The United loanee’s loan deal does include an option to buy at £14.5million –something Flamengo are unsure of activating at the end of the season.
Club president Flamengo Tostes recently revealed the Brazilian outfit’s stance over the situation. He told reporters in an interview, as reported by Sport Witness (h/t The Sun):
“I don’t know if Flamengo are going to buy him (Andreas Pereira) or not, it’s not even being discussed internally yet, there’s a huge deadline for us to look at this. What I can say is: Do Flamengo have the capacity to buy an athlete worth €20m today? Totally. There’s certainly the potential for that.
“There is no lack of people wanting to lend money to Flamengo, they can generate this revenue. But a series of other factors need to be considered, which you will have to give up to eventually be able to make this investment.”

Pereira does have a contract until 2023 with the Manchester-based club but could suffer horribly for game-time if he returns as stars like Donny van de Beek and Nemanja Matic are already occupying places on the bench.
However, the midfielder has time until the end of the season to convince his current employers to make his move permanent.
