David Norris believes Manchester United will have to shell out big money to sign Leeds United ace Kalvin Phillips
Speaking to This is Futbol (h/t Leeds Live), David Norris claims Manchester United will have to shell out nearly £80million to sign Kalvin Phillips from Leeds United.
A former Leeds man himself, David Norris spent three seasons at the Yorkshire outfit and left the club around the same time as Phillips was promoted to the senior team. Since then, the Englishman has made a name for himself as he has been hugely influential in the club’s step up to the Premier League.
His performances with Leeds last season earned him a place in the England squad for the Euros this summer, where he helped his nation to their first major final since 1966. Thus, Manchester United’s interest is justifiable, especially as they are apparently keen on landing a central defensive midfielder.
It was thought that £60million was the fee the 25-year-old is available for, however, Norris is of a different opinion and believes it will take more to lure the midfielder out of the club. Norris told This is Futbol (h/t Leeds Live):
“I think that’s too low. To go and do what he did with England – I think that was a surprise for everyone that he started and then to do as well as he did throughout – I think it just jumped his whole valuation right up and put him in the top bracket.
“If he’s still playing for England and doing ok for Leeds, it’s got to be around the 80s, for me.”

The Red Devils strengthened well in their defence and attack this summer, and a little protection in midfield could certainly turn them into prime title contenders.
Regardless, shelling out £80million for the Englishman will make him one of the club’s most expensive signings, and only time will tell whether Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and co. are keen on making that happen.
