Edinson Cavani eager on staying at Manchester United and competing for the starting spot amidst Real Madrid links
Speaking to ESPN (h/t Metro), Manchester United ace Edinson Cavani has dismissed links to Real Madrid and is keen on fighting for a place in the starting lineup amidst competition with Cristiano Ronaldo.
The 34-year-old joined the Old Trafford outfit on a free transfer last summer and took some time to settle down in a new country and a new league. However, the Uruguayan became an important player for the club towards the back-end of last season as he led the Red Devils to the final of the UEFA Europa League.
The striker also signed a yearlong extension on his deal in May. However, the additions of Jadon Sancho, and more importantly, Cristiano Ronaldo have led to a lack of minutes for Cavani.
However, he is determined to compete for a spot and is not eyeing any move away from the club. Cavani told ESPN (h/t Metro):
“The season is just starting I can’t talk. They talk, and they will always continue talking, and the press is like that too, they talk, and they have to sell. Those are things that happen.
“A lot of debate is created, but football is football, and you don’t have to turn it around too much, it’s not because one or the other is there, the important thing is to be prepared for when it’s your turn, you always want to play, he (Ronaldo) wants to be there forever, but that is not going to change my way of thinking or acting.”
