Alex Ferguson believes Solskjaer should not have dropped Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo vs Everton
According to The Metro (h/t Daily Post), Manchester United legend, Sir Alex Ferguson has blamed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for the club’s disappointing 1-1 draw at home against Everton.
It was the second time in consecutive home games that the Red Devils dropped points. Coming off the back of a 1-0 loss to Aston Villa, the club’s lack of intent against the Toffees was frustrating to say the least.,
The result could have been much worse had Yerry Mina’s late goal stood. Thankfully it was ruled out for offside and United escaped with a point.
Solskajer went with a curious team selection that saw Cristiano Ronaldo start the game on the night. Given that United have no game at the weekend to prepare for, Solskjaer’s decision was baffling to say the least.
While Ronaldo did eventually come on, Everton held on for a share of the spoils. Speaking to UFC superstar Khabib Nurmagomedov, Ferguson was overheard saying Ronaldo should have started the game.
“I know but you should always start with your best players.”
The 36-year-old is on a hot streak and recently scored United’s winner over Villarreal. With him not in the squad, Everton would have started the game well and with more confidence in their abilities.
Ronaldo is one of the finest players to ever play the game and his presence on the field is a psychological threat in itself. By leaving him out, Solskajer gave his opponents a pause for breath. It was something that clearly took.

Ronaldo is clearly United’s most effective player but it is fair to say that his success has come at the cost of others. While Solskjaer may have dropped Ronaldo, the team he put out had enough quality in their ranks to see off Everton.
The result in fact deserves a deeper inquisition of the manager and his tactics. Team selection is the least of our worries.
