An intimate look at what Manchester United stars will be doing this international break
Club football will take a backseat this weekend as Manchester United stars will turn out for their countries in international games.
Given the talent on our roster, it is inevitable that many of our top players will be called up for their national side. According to the club’s official site, that is exactly the case. We now take a look at what these players will be up to in the coming days.
Europe
Anthony Martial will join up with the French squad following his first United goal of the season. He joins experienced duo Raphael Varane and Paul Pogba in Les Bleus squad that will play in the UEFA Nations League finals against European giants Italy, Spain and Belgium.
The United trio will come up against a familiar face when they face Spain. David De Gea looks to be back to his best and could be in the fray to unseat Unai Simon from Luis Enrique’s starting XI. Whether that happens remains to be seen.
Victor Lindelof will captain his country as they take on Spain. His Swedes have played two games lesser than their opponents and will overtake them should they will all of them. Sweden will also take on Kosovo and Greece.
United skipper Harry Maguire missed out on the England squad after injuring himself against Aston Villa. The trio of Luke Shaw, Jadon Sancho and Jesse Lingard could all feature over the two games against Andorra and Hungary.
Two of our biggest names, Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes have been selected for Portugal, who host Qatar in a friendly on Saturday before taking on Luxembourg in a World Cup qualifier later on. Red Devils full-back Diogo Dalot has also been called up and it remains to be seen if he will feature.
United midfielder Scott McTominay returns to the Scotland squad after he missed the last set of internationals. They play Israel and Faroe Islands in two critical games for their World Cup aspirations.
South America
Edinson Cavani looks set to feature for Uruguay as they take on Colombia, Argentina and Brazil. The last of the games will see him face off against United teammate Fred. The Selecao take on Venezuela and Colombia, before hosting Edinson Cavani’s Uruguay.
Africa
Centre-back Eric Bailly is included for Ivory coast’s ties against Malawi. Six points will put them in a strong position to qualify for the World Cup.
