Transfer News: Gianluigi Donnarumma unhappy at PSG and he could end up at Manchester United

According to Calciomercato via Express (h/t TEAMtalk), Manchester United and Chelsea are two potential destinations for Gianluigi Donnarumma, who could soon be on the move from PSG.

The highly-rated Italian goalkeeper just moved to the French giants this summer on a free transfer. He was amongst several players that made the switch to Parc des Princes, including Lionel Messi, Georginio Wijnaldum, and Achraf Hakimi.

But while the others have found playing time easy to come by, Donnarumma has had to settle for a place on the bench behind the ever-reliable Keylor Navas. And the report claims he could be on the move with Man United, Chelsea, Barcelona, and Inter Milan watching.

Another report from Italian outlet Corriere della Serra via Goal (h/t TEAMtalk) adds that Juventus are monitoring this situation and could cash in on Donnarumma’s apparent unhappiness at being the club’s backup goalkeeper.

No need for Donnarumma

For United, this is one transfer from which they should steer clear. The club already has two elite goalkeepers in David de Gea and Dean Henderson and Donnarumma’s addition can only cause more selection headaches.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hasn’t been afraid to use Henderson in important games despite de Gea’s status as the club’s number one. It is better to trust the duo going forward rather than spend big on the Italian.

Donnarumma was massive in Italy’s UEFA Euro win this summer. But given that he signed a deal with PSG just a few months back, the Ligue 1 giants would not want to lose him for cheap.

It is better to focus those funds elsewhere, especially in midfield, where the club can use someone to replace Paul Pogba if he leaves or to take Fred’s position in the starting XI as the Brazilian continues to divide opinions amongst the fanbase with his sub-par performances.
