Willy Kambwala expresses happiness after signing first professional contract with Manchester United
According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United starlet, Willy Kambwala, has signed his first professional contract with the club.
It hasn’t been easy 12 months for the 17-year-old defender. He joined the Red Devils’ academy last summer on deadline day from Sochaux in France.
Shortly after, he suffered a brutal injury that sidelined him for nearly a year. Kambwala finally made his return to action last month where he played an hour in Man United U18’s 4-2 win against Stoke City U18.
The Kinshasa-born defender took to his Instagram account to share the good news with his followers. He wrote:
Kambwala signs pro deal
“I am proud to announce the signing of my first professional contract with Manchester United FC. I would like to thank God, my family and all the people who have contributed to this success. I’m looking forward to giving it my all and reaching the top with the club. All the glory to God.”
Standing at 1.92m at the age of just 17, Kambwala is already an imposing figure in the heart of Man United’s development teams. There is still a long way to go if he wants action with the senior team, however.
United haven’t had a lot of big names coming through their academy in recent years with regards to defence. Axel Tuanzebe was a promising talent but he is now on loan at Aston Villa.
Timothy Fosu-Mensah also looked like a prospect but United offloaded him permanently to Bayer Leverkusen earlier this year. It remains to be seen how long Kambwala takes before getting his first senior cap for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team.
