Lee Bowyer backs Tahith Chong to rekindle Manchester United career
According to Birmingham Live (h/t Manchester Evening News), Birmingham City manager Lee Bowyer has backed Tahith Chong to rekindle his career at Manchester United.
The young Dutchman is currently on loan at the Blues and has impressed one and all with his performances. United legend Wayne Rooney’s Derby County were the latest side to feel his blade as they succumbed 2-0 to Birmingham at the weekend.
The 21-year-old may not have scored on the night, but his performances were enough to garner him the man of the match award. None who watched him that night would disagree.
According to the report, Bowyer appears transfixed by Chong’s ability on the ball. A technically adept footballer, his abilities appear to be coming to the fore.
“Everyone will talk about him in possession and the way he glides past people is beautiful to watch.”
Bowyer goes on to add that despite coming from United, Chong is not hesitant to put in the work needed. There appears to be no sense of entitlement and he is keen to do his football do the talking.
“To come from Manchester United and to have the attitude he has, and work the way he works, he is a credit to their football club.”
The Blues boss believes Chong’s ability combined with his willingness to put a shift in will hold him in good stead. Unfulfilled talent is more common than one believes but with application and hard work, one can cross certain barriers inaccessible to just ability.
“If you have that talent and still do that, you have every chance of making it at the top.”
Chong has so far made five appearances for Birmingham, making two assists. Whether it is a case of him having rediscovered his form or his level remains to be seen.
