Gary Neville names three Manchester United players who could be moved on to accommodate Erling Haaland
Speaking on Monday Night Football (h/t The Metro), Manchester United legend, Gary Neville has named three players who could be moved on to bring in Erling Haaland in the summer of 2022.
The Red Devils have enjoyed an excellent summer that saw the likes of Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo all strengthen the first team. Despite the window having closed, recruitment is a continuous process.
United’s recruitment team are set to meet next week in order to work out their transfer targets for next year. One of the players in the fray is Haaland, who has been scoring goals for fun at Borussia Dortmund.
The Norwegian wonderkid’s £68million release clause becomes active next year and United could have to battle some of Europe’s biggest names to land him. Neville believes the Red Devils remain interested in the 21-year-old despite landing Ronaldo.
“I don’t think Cristiano coming prevents Haaland joining.”
He goes on to add that three players in the current roster could be moved on to make space for Haaland. Neville has backed the trio of Edinson Cavani, Juan Mata and Anthony Martial to be the ones out of the door.
“I think Manchester United next year will lose probably Martial, they’ll lose Mata, Cavani will leave because they got another year out of him.”
Neville goes on to suggest that securing Haaland gives Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the option to revert to a front two. Featuring the Norwegian alongside Ronaldo will give United an attack that can trouble the best defences.
“You can fit two strikers in a team, surely?”
