Edinson Cavani asks Manchester United fans to revert to singing his old song
According to MUTV (h/t The Express), Manchester United star Edinson Cavani has made a special request to the fans who have all been taken in by the Uruguayan’s performances so far.
The veteran striker has impressed since joining the club last summer and is a clinical presence upfront. This prompted the club’s supporters to make a song in his honour.
The chant followed the tune of Abba’s Gimme Gimme Gimme, with the lyrics going “Give it, give it, give it to Edi Cavani, pass him the ball and watch him score all the goals”.
The fans have since come up with another song for the forward, something he isn’t fully on board with. This is because the new chant alludes to Cavani’s number 7 jersey that has since been changed to number 21. The Uruguayan had parted ways with his jersey following Cristiano Ronaldo’s return.
“The fans have now come up with a second song, which is a lot more difficult to sing than the previous one.”
Cavani found the original song easy to follow and admits he would sing along to it at times. Rather than being offended or made uncomfortable, it is simply a case of the old chant being easier to follow.
“I could follow the first one: ‘Give it, give it, give it to Edi Cavani…’. It was easier to follow, and I could sing along to it in places.”
Cavani has also gone on to thank United fans for their warmth and affection. While he remains grateful for their unwavering support, it is clear that he would rather have a song that he is comfortable singing.
“This second one, which is also really cool and really good too, and right here let me take a moment to thank all the United fans for their warmth and affection, this second song is much more difficult to sing.”
It is the least we can do for a player who has impressed every time he dons the United red.
