Manchester United could be set to be without Fred for two matchdays
According to the Times (h/t Express), Manchester United are one of the five Premier League clubs to be affected by the ban placed on Brazilian players, including Fred, who will now miss 2 games.
The Red Devils, who have won 2 games out of a possible three in the Premier League, refused to let their players leave for international duty if it involved travelling to ‘red list’ countries. This is because the players that return from those countries face isolation in Government approved hotels for a minimum of 10 days.
Fred, who is a part of the Brazilian contingent that was called up for international duty, was not allowed to leave as this would mean that the 28-year-old would be unavailable for selection for up to 3 matchdays.
The midfielder would miss the clash against Newcastle United, West Ham United, not to mention the club’s first Champions League group stage game against BSC Young Boys. However, the fact that the United man was not allowed to leave did not go down well with the Brazilian FA.
The Brazilian FA immediately appealed to FIFA to place a ban on those Brazilian players for five days so as to make them unavailable for selection for their respective clubs. FIFA has now confirmed the ban for the same. Thus, Fred, who is a part of this mishap, will not be allowed to feature in United’s game against Newcastle on the weekend or the mid-week Champions League clash.

This would be a huge blow for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who would have been hoping to have a fully available squad for his hectic schedule of seven games in 22 days post the international break.
The other Premier League players who will face this ban are Alisson Becker, Fabinho, Firmino (Liverpool), Raphinha (Leeds United), Gabriel Jesus, Ederson (Manchester City), and Thiago Silva (Chelsea).
