Transfer News: Erling Haaland is still on the radar of Manchester United
According to ESPN (h/t United in Focus), Manchester United remain interested in signing Erling Haaland next summer, despite signing Cristiano Ronaldo on deadline day.
The Red Devils wrapped up the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo before the end of the transfer window and added handsomely to their squad this summer. The Portuguese was the club’s fourth summer signing after the likes of Jadon Sancho, Tom Heaton, and Raphael Varane.
However, the Old Trafford outfit are already making plans for next year and are still keeping Erling Haaland as a ‘priority signing’.
Although United do possess the likes of Ronaldo, Sancho, Edinson Cavani, Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial, and Jesse Lingard in their squad, that may not be the case next summer.
Cavani will be out of contract next summer while Martial has not entirely convinced either, thus, paving the way for another forward. Moreover, Ronaldo, who is already on the wrong side of 30, will be a year older, and Haaland could work as the long-term heir to the centre-forward role for the club.
The Borussia Dortmund goal machine has scored 63 goals in 64 games for the German outfit since his arrival in January 2020 and attracted a lot of attention from several clubs this summer. However, his £150million price tag warded off most suitors. While that was the case, German outlet Sport1 (h/t United in Focus) confirmed earlier this summer that Haaland would be available for a fee in the range of £76million next summer.

Given that it’s a far more reasonable fee, United are set to face competition for the Norwegian’s signature next summer from rivals Manchester City, German giants Bayern Munich and European heavyweights Real Madrid.
Thus, it remains to be seen whether the Red Devils can convince the 21-year-old to make the move to Old Trafford next summer.
