Player News: Raphael Varane undergoes his much-awaited medical at Manchester United
According to Manchester Evening News, French superstar Raphael Varane is undergoing his Manchester United medical at Carrington.
The 28-year-old is set to become the club’s second high profile signing of the summer, following in the footsteps of Jadon Sancho. The Red Devils have already agreed on a deal with Real Madrid and the move is imminent. With the medical finally taking place, it could be officially announced imminently. (h/t MEN)
Varane had been quarantining since he arrived in England with his family on Thursday, but arrived at the club’s training facility at lunchtime today to undergo his medical. It looks like a decade long interest in the player is finally set to bear fruit.
The player is set to pen his Red Devils contract on Wednesday morning, before being unveiled later in the day. Having seen Sancho take to training for the first time on Monday, fans will be suitably excited to see Varane join the ranks.
Varane, for his part, is eager to begin training and is determined to take to the field on Wednesday itself. He has his sights set on our opening fixture against Leeds United and is keen to make his mark at the club. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, however, is unlikely to rush him into the starting XI. (h/t MEN)
United have until 12pm on Friday to register Varane for this weekend’s opener. While the deal could certainly be done by then, the chances of him playing on the night are far from certain. Marcelo Bielsa’s side are always tough opponents and will not make our life easy this weekend.
With or without Varane, Untied should, however, be expected to beat Leeds at home. After all, a much inferior Red Devils side beat them 6-0 in the corresponding fixture last season.

Varane, his wife Camille and two young children have been staying at an estate owned by United. The question is not if the transfer will be done but rather when. With Harry Maguire finally set to receive a top-class defensive partner, there is now no room for error.
