Manchester United ace Edinson Cavani is set to return this Thursday
According to the reliable journalist Jonathan Shrager, veteran striker Edinson Cavani is set to fly back to Manchester this Thursday ahead of our season opener against Leeds United at the weekend.
The Uruguayan had a disappointing Copa America and will return to Old Trafford keen to play in front of the fans. However, despite fans being allowed back, the COVID-19 pandemic is still raging across the world.
As things stand, Cavani is waiting to learn what quarantine rules will apply to him upon his return to England. It would be fair to assume that the chances of him featuring against Marcelo Bielsa’s side are minute. Not only will he need to potentially see out the quarantine period but also regain match fitness.
The 34-year-old exceeded expectations and ended his first season at United as the club’s first-choice striker. He ended the campaign with 17 goals and six assists in 39 appearances for United. El Matador has shown little sign of slowing down and there could be more of the same once again this season.
Fans, however, will have to wait for around two weeks before watching their favourite Uruguayan take to the field. Given his advanced age, there is little reason for United to rush Cavani back into the lineup.
Curiously his potential absence now could open the door for Anthony Martial to once again impress. The Frenchman is facing a pivotal season at United and will need to channel the form he showed in the 2019/20 campaign.
With Marcus Rashford a few weeks away from fitness and Jadon Sancho still acclimatizing, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will need the rest of his players to step up and be counted.

While he remains a dependable striker, the Red Devils can get the best out of the player by using him methodically. With or without the veteran, we have enough quality to overcome Leeds United. A good start to the season could set the tone for things to come. There is nothing better than a win to lift the morale of both players and fans.
