Manchester United duo return to first-team training ahead of the new season

Luke Shaw and Anthony Martial have returned to Manchester United training ahead of the 2021/22 Premier League season

According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United duo, Luke Shaw and Anthony Martial have been pictured in training as the club prepare for their final pre-season game ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

Several first-team stars returned to training this week, including England’s Harry Maguire, Sweden’s Victor Lindelöf, and Spain’s David de Gea, according to the pictures published by United’s website. Thus, it was puzzling when there were no pictures of Luke Shaw and Anthony Martial.

The duo, however, were later pictured in a video of a training session before being tagged in social media posts by their teammates.

Shaw, who played a pivotal role for England, including a goal in the final against Italy, will be gearing up for the new season after what seemed to be a largely impressive 2020/21 domestic campaign.

Anthony Martial, on the other hand, will return to training after being sidelined with a knee injury since March. This led to the Frenchman missing out on the end of the domestic campaign and the Euros earlier this summer. Earlier this week, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gave an update on the Frenchman’s progress saying:

“Anthony Martial has also joined us, but he’s not joined the team training yet. He’s recovering from the knee injury, and that looks good.

Manchester United could include Anthony Martial in a swap deal for star striker, Erling Haaland.

However, both Martial and Shaw have now joined first-team training, while there are still a couple of players who are yet to return to the squad from international duty, namely Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani, Fred, and new signing Jadon Sancho.

Manchester United, who are currently in Scotland for their pre-season training camp, will play Everton on Saturday before they play their first Premier League game of the season against Leeds United on the 14th of August.
