Ole Gunnar Solskjaer issues warning to returning Manchester United stars
According to Daily Star, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has sent a word of caution to his returning Manchester United stars. A host of players that played for their nations in the Euros and Copa America are set to return to action. But Solskjaer has warned them that they will not be handed a start against Leeds United in the season opener if they are not fit.
Manchester United are primed and ready for the new season. It was an underwhelming campaign last time around where United failed to get their hands on silverware but they are out there now to correct those failings. Pre-season is fully underway as the squad warms up for a crucial season.
Solskjaer has been without most of his first-team stars for the time being due to their international commitments. All the players who went on international duty were afforded three weeks off before returning for training. Most of the squad is back by now and the final few names are also expected to return by Monday.
Solskjaer has warned his returning players on their fitness
As United look towards their season opener against rivals Leeds, Solskjaer knows that the players returning late have not yet had preseason training. He has thus sent out a warning over their fitness and that they will not be in contention for a start in the opening game if they are unfit.
“With the boys who’ve not come back yet, I’ve not got a Scooby-Doo how they are fitness wise. Everyone’s due in on Monday, they’ve got two weeks until the first game and that means it’s three weeks since their last game — Fred at the Copa America and the English finalists. So we’ll see how they are, what fitness levels they’re at, because it’s also down to what they’ve done during the holidays. I can’t just throw them in if they’re not fit enough.”

What Solskjaer has said is definitely logical because players need to be match fit for the competitive games. With the whole squad back by Monday, they will have a chance to feature in the final friendly against Everton on the 7th of August. That will perhaps give Solskjaer a better idea of the squad he can use against Leeds.
