Transfer News: Everton join the race for Jesse Lingard

According to transfer news from Daily Mail, Everton have become the latest club to show an interest in Manchester United star Jesse Lingard. The 28-year-old’s future is still up in the air as he returned to Old Trafford after his loan spell with West Ham United. Now, Everton have joined the Hammers in the chase for Lingard.

Lingard’s loan spell at West Ham was a hugely successful one. At one point it looked as if the 28-year-old would single-handedly carry West Ham to the top four places. While they did fall short in the end, Europa League qualification was still ensured as Lingard capped off one of his best-ever seasons. Following that, he has now returned to United.

United got their preseason underway against Derby County with a 2-1 win. Jesse Lingard was called on in the second half as the player featured for the first time for United in seven months. The English midfielder was a lively presence amidst all the academy players in the second half and almost scored a banger as well.

West Ham have shown some keenness to take Lingard on a permanent deal. However, they are not the only side as Everton have joined in. The Toffees want some attacking reinforcements for new manager Rafa Benitez and are monitoring the midfielder at United.

Solskjaer has expressed his desire to keep Lingard for this season but with so much interest being garnered, it could force a change of mind. Chances are that he might not feature regularly in the presence of star names such as Bruno Fernandes. A sale to Everton or West Ham could help raise some funds as well.
