Manchester United skipper Harry Maguire reveals the biggest reason behind Luke Shaw revival
According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United star Harry Maguire has revealed the biggest reason behind the emergence of Luke Shaw as a top-class left-back in recent months.
The 25-year-old went into this summer’s Euros on the back of his best-ever season in a red shirt. He has carried over that fine form into the tournament and has been one of the Three Lions’ top players.
Shaw stood out in England’s memorable win over Germany in the last 16 and provided two assists in their 4-0 win over Ukraine in the quarterfinals. Three assists in two games see him trail only behind David Beckham in England’s all-time list of assist getters at the Euros.
Maguire believes Shaw always had the ability in him to become one of the best in the world. As teammates, both at the club and international levels, the Red Devils skipper has a frontline seat to assess the left-back’s performance.
“His ability has always been there, he has every attribute to be one of the best left-backs in the world.”
Maguire goes on to add that the biggest reason behind Shaw’s improvement is his desire to become the best player on the pitch. This change in mentality has seen him go above and beyond the usual call, reaching a whole new level of performance on a consistent basis.
“The main difference I feel within Luke is his mentality in terms of pushing himself and the demands he’s putting himself on to not just be a six out of 10 in each and every game, not play comfortably, but to really push on and be himself to be the best player on the pitch.”
Shaw was voted United’s players’ player of the year last season. Seven years on since joining United, he is looking more like a Red Devils star. A player of immense potential, he appears to be coming into his own as a top-level player. Long may it continue.
