Eyebrows were raised when Manchester United skipper Harry Maguire was named in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the Euros.

He missed the first two games but has since returned to make a significant impact for the Three Lions on the pitch. The 28-year-old has been the country’s best centre-back this tournament and continues to go from strength to strength.

Maguire won all of his duels against Ukraine and even got himself on the scoresheet as England ran out 4-0 winners on the night.

While Ukraine may not be the most intimidating side, it is a testament to England’s ability that they made short work of the east-Europeans. Harry Kane scored twice while Maguire and Jordan Henderson too grabbed a goal each on the night. It is fair to say that the three leaders on the pitch all stepped up and made themselves count.

Maguire’s return has also aided Luke Shaw on the left as the United star continues to impress. He once again grabbed two assists in what was another breathtaking performance.

Maguire’s form augurs well for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer going into the new season. The 28-year-old could go on to play a major role in what could be a special 2021/22 campaign.

We take a look at how some fans reacted to his performance yesterday.
