Manchester United make an offer for Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski who is open to a summer exit
According to AS (h/t The Express), Manchester United target Robert Lewandowski could be open to a new challenge after a hugely successful seven years at Bayern Munich.
The 32-year-old Polish international is amongst the best strikers in world football. He has an exemplary strike rate of 294 goals and 65 assists in 329 matches for the Bavarian giants. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Lewandowski has two more years on his Bayern contract. However another prolific season has seen a number of clubs line up for his services. The likes of United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain have all made offers for the striker.
The 32-year-old striker netted 41 league goals in the 2020/21 season for Bayern. This saw him break the legendary Gerd Muller’s Bundesliga record, which had until then stood for 49 years.
For now, Lewandowski is focused on leading Poland to glory in this summer’s Euros. His agent Pini Zahavi, on the other hand, could be in for a busy summer off the field. The 32-year-old is said to be keen on a new challenge but Bayern are not too enthusiastic about the prospect.
Spanish giants Real Madrid are also keeping tabs on the player but are yet to make an offer. They previously failed to sign him twice – in 2014 and 2016. Lewandowski had previously claimed it as his dream to play for Madrid. Whether this gives them an advantage remains to be seen.
Real aren’t the only long-term admirers the Polish ace has. In fact, Lewandowski was close to making the switch to United in 2012. Instead, Dortmund rejected United’s advances and the player stayed put. Lewandowski was coming along well under Jurgen Klopp in Germany and he was only pleased to stay put.

While Bayern might keep hold of him this summer, they could be more receptive to offers next summer. United for their part have prioritized the signing of Jadon Sancho this summer. However, they will do well to make the most of an opportunity to land Lewandowski should it present itself.
