Manchester United star Marcus Rashford names Raphael Varane amongst his toughest opponents

Taking part in a Q&A (h/t The Sun), Manchester United star Marcus Rashford has named Real Madrid ace Raphael Varane amongst the toughest opponents he has faced.

The United ace is currently with the England squad ahead of this summer’s Euros. The Three Lions are joint-favourites alongside defending world champions France.

Varane is one of Les Bleus‘ top players and is set for a pivotal summer both on and off the field. The 28-year-old is amongst the best players in the world and is on his day a top defender.

Rashford has a high opinion of Varane

There is every possibility of both players squaring off in the latter stages of the tournament. Rashford for one is well aware of the French star’s abilities and should be up for the challenge.

“I thought, when we played against Real Madrid in a friendly, that Varane played and he was quite tough.”

Varane is however not the only defender who has left an impression on the United ace. He has also named Sergio Ramos and Liverpool ace Virgil van Dijk as ones who have caught his attention.

While Van Dijk is unattainable, the likes of both Varane and Ramos have been linked with a move to United. The former has just a year to go on his current deal while the latter is expected to leave on a Bosman this summer.

Of the two, it would appear United have earmarked Varane as one of their priorities. The prospect of Varane lining up next to Rashford next season is surely an image that will get fans going.

Bringing in a new defender is a key concern for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this summer. There are few players in world football better than Varane and the Frenchman will make an excellent partner for skipper Harry Maguire.
