Manchester United fans come to the defence of Marcus Rashford following online abuse
It was a difficult night for Manchester United star Marcus Rashford. Not only did he have to deal with a heartbreaking loss in the Europa League final but also endure abuse from his own fans on social media.
The 23-year-old took to Twitter to reveal that he received over 70 racially offensive messages on his social media accounts. It is the latest incident from a troubling trend that has gripped football in recent months.
Rashford for his part refuses to be cowed down and rightfully remains defiant in the face of such abuse.
Rather than dismiss these antics as that of fans being morons, the relevant authorities should ensure strict action is taken against these people.
After all, as Rashford went on to admit, one such message came from a school teacher. It is troubling to know that those with such narrow minds are educating the youth of today.
Unless we band together and fight this growing menace, there is little hope in a brighter tomorrow. Thankfully, a large number of fans, supporters of various clubs have thrown their weight in behind Rashford.
We take a look at how some of them reacted to the news on Twitter.
