Kasper Schmeichel followed in the footsteps of his father, Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel when he lifted the FA Cup with Leicester City on Saturday.

It was the Foxes’ first ever win in the competition and Schmeichel led from the front with a string of neat saves.

According to BBC (h/t Manchester Evening News), the Dane had the opportunity to rub shoulders with a number of United stars during Peter’s time at Old Trafford. This encouraged him to pursue a career in football.

“In the early years, it did mould me a lot.”

Kasper has now name-dropped those United players who have had a positive influence on him. This includes the likes of Eric Cantona, David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt and the Neville brothers.

“All of them coming through, watching their hunger and enthusiasm, that definitely had a massive effect on me growing up and it still does.”

A number of these players came through the United system and went on to play a critical role in our domestic domination. Talent amplified with work ethic, the players have left a striking image on Kasper.

Following in Peter’s footsteps was never going to be easy. While he may not have had as much success as his father, Kasper remains one of the Premier League’s best shot-stoppers.
