Conor McGregor confirms he could buy Manchester United
Conor McGregor confirmed on Twitter that he would definitely like to acquire a sports team such as Manchester United. The UFC star replied to a tweet where he talked about his ownership ambitions by buying either Celtic or Manchester United.
This is not the first time McGregor has spoken about his desire to buy the club. The Irishman’s comments came in the backdrop of the club’s exit from the European Super League. While he appeared to have made that comment in jest, the latest tweet seems much more serious.
The 32-year-old is worth $120million, a drop in the bucket of what United are valued at. However, he could partner with other investors and attempt a buyout as a conglomerate.
McGregor recently sold a majority stake in his Irish whiskey company Proper 12 which should land him around $600million.
In the tweet, he was asked about his intentions to buy Manchester United. He responded that he had actually thought about buying shares at Celtic. He added that he is a fan of both clubs and will be open to ownership in the future.
“A conversation came up regarding Celtic first to be honest. To acquire shares from Dermot Desmond. I am certainly interested in acquiring a sports team at some stage! Both Celtic and Man United are teams I like for sure. But I am open. I feel I could do big things for a club.”

All this is interesting talk at this point but it will come down to the Glazers who have shown no intention of selling up. It is understandable due to the sheer commercial appeal of United that is a huge source of revenue even during these tough economic conditions.
