Report: Impressive Man United starlet set for a loan spell abroad in 2021/22

Promising Manchester United midfielder James Garner could be loaned to a foreign club this summer

According to the Mirror, Manchester United starlet, James Garner could be set to enjoy a loan spell abroad this upcoming summer.

The youngster came through the ranks at United, making his first team bow in 2019. He has since made seven senior appearances for the Red Devils.

With first-team opportunities hard to come by, United decided to loan out Garner to Championship side Watford last summer. He, however, failed to play regularly at Vicarage Road and was recalled in January.

The 20-year-old was then loaned out to another Championship side, Nottingham Forest. With four goals in 20 games, it is fair to say he has had better luck the second time around.

His performances have also pleased Forest boss Chris Hughton their fans who are keen to take the youngster on for another season. However, that may not happen with United keen to send the player abroad instead. (h/t Mirror)

It is not without it’s risks as we have seen with Tahith Chong this season. In Nottingham and Hughton, United have a local alternative that is both appealing and also have proven themselves adept at developing the player.

The 20-year-old is highly regarded at Carrington. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had previously compared him to legendary United midfielder and current coach Michael Carrick.

While Garner still has a long way to go before he can lace Carrick’s boots, he is certainly on the right track.

Garner is certainly an excellent player who could go a long way in his career. However, given the riches United have in the midfield department, he would struggle for regular playtime at Old Trafford. His best bet at the moment would be to seek a move elsewhere.
