West Brom block Manchester United from rescheduling the Liverpool game to a favourable date
According to The Telegraph (Subscription Required), Manchester United was prevented from getting a favourable date to face Liverpool thanks to West Brom.
The Red Devils were initially supposed to take on the Merseysiders on 2nd May. However, the fan protests that preceded the match got out of hand and led to the match being postponed.
It has since been rescheduled to 13th May. It means United will now play three games in five days, testing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad management to the limit.
According to the report, officials initially wanted to reschedule Liverpool’s game against West Brom at the Hawthorns on May 16.
The plan was for that game to played in midweek, with United vs Liverpool to be rescheduled instead. The Baggies, however, shot down the idea leading to our fixture now being played midweek.
Sam Allardyce’s men face quite impossible odds in their attempt to stave off relegation. It is entirely possible that by the time the date comes along, they may already be relegated to the second tier.
United’s games at home against Leicester City and Fulham too have been affected by the rearrangement of the Liverpool clash. With the Foxes set to contest the FA Cup final against Chelsea, the match against us has been put back by 24 hours to 11th May.
The game against the Foxes could help determine who eventually finishes second.
