Manchester United fans plan further protests following Old Trafford storming

According to The Times (Subscription Required), Manchester United fans remain undeterred by the controversy generated due to their protests at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Thousands of supporters assembled outside the Theatre of Dreams to protest the Glazers’ ownership of the club. While largely peaceful, some fans stormed the Old Trafford turf, setting off security concerns. The match against Liverpool was eventually postponed.

While there has been support from some quarters, there has also been opposition from others. Fans however are unperturbed.

Fans feel they have been ‘sidelined and ignored’ by the management and are keen to make their voice heard. More protests are now being planned for the upcoming weeks.

United’s next home game is against third-placed Leicester City on May 12. The rearranged home clash against Liverpool provides the supporters with yet another opportunity to make their point. A date for the game is yet to be announced.

United will now review security arrangements and will also consider banning fans responsible for criminal activities. (h/t The Guardian)

United fans came out in force against the Glazers

There is little doubt that fans storming of the pitch have added an unnecessary narrative of violence to the whole incident. The club pretty much confirmed the same yesterday after claiming that fans forcibly made their way into the stadium.

It isn’t just the fans who remain unfazed. The Glazers too are taking a similar approach and have no intention of calling it quits. At least not yet anyway. This will not sit well with fans who are growing increasingly agitated at the Americans.
