Manchester United make an official statement regarding fan protest at Old Trafford
Manchester United have finally made an official statement regarding the fan protest that took place at Old Trafford yesterday. It was made through the club’s official website.
Fans gathered in their thousands outside the Theatre of Dreams ahead of our clash against arch-rivals Liverpool. Some even made it all the way into the pitch, raising security concerns that saw the match get postponed.
While United believe that a large number of fans were keen to exercise their right and make themselves heard, some took it a bit too far with their actions.
United have rubbished reports in mainstream and social media that protesters were able to access the stadium and pitch through a gate opened by club staff.
After breaking through barriers on the forecourt, some protestors climbed the gates and forced access to a side door in the stand before letting others in through to the concourse area and the pitch.
The club also confirmed that a second breach occurred when a protestor smashed the door of a disability access lift, which led to a group to enter the stand.
United have no issue against those involved in peaceful protest but will aid the police to identify those involved in criminal activity. They will also issue their own sanctions to any season ticket holder or member identified.
The club once again stressed that they remain committed to dialogue and hope to interact with the fans through the Fans Forum and other appropriate channels.

United’s statement in a way rubbishes claims that it was a peaceful protest. With the police now involved, we hope it does not take away focus from what is a pivotal movement to regain control of the club back.
The revised date for the fixture will be announced after discussion and agreement with the Premier League.
