Blow for Manchester United as Cristiano Ronaldo targets Sporting return
According to Italian journalist Claudio Raimondi (h/t The Sun), Manchester United hero Cristiano Ronaldo has made a decision regarding his future.
The 36-year-old will soon enter the final year of his contract at Juventus. His time at the Turin giants appears to be coming to an end with United one of the touted destinations.
Ronaldo is keen to see his career go a full circle and is open to returning to Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon. It was here that the footballing legend took his first steps to superstardom.
This will be bad news for both United and Real Madrid, who have both enjoyed fruitful years with the player. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to reunite with the player but may have to shelve that plan now.
Signing Ronaldo would have demanded United to make a significant financial commitment. Given his age and our other needs in the squad, the Red Devils are better off pursuing other avenues.
The Portuguese superstar is one of the best players in the history of the game. Despite turning 36, Ronaldo continues to impress and has scored 27 goals in 30 Serie A appearances for Juventus this season.
Ronaldo was just 12 years old when he joined Sporting’s academy in 1997. He was eventually promoted to the senior squad, making his first-team bow at 17.
He developed his potential at United, where he established himself as one of the best players in world football.
