Edinson Cavani could help dictate Manchester United summer transfer plans
According to Forbes, Manchester United star Edinson Cavani could help dictate the club’s summer transfer policy.
The 34-year-old joined the club on deadline day last summer. While he has impressed, his future at the club is far from certain. With his time at the club coming to an end, it remains to be seen what he chooses to do.
As things stand, United are in the market for a new striker. The club’s top choice is Erling Haaland, but his asking price could put him out of the club’s reach.
Not being able to bring in a top striker while also losing Cavani could be catastrophic for United. Such a scenario will paint focus on Anthony Martial and youngster Mason Greenwood.
The former has struggled for form this season while the latter could be United’s future in the position. Greenwood however still needs to develop further before he can be entrusted with the role of the ace scorer.
A striker isn’t the only one United are keen on this summer. Cavani’s stay will free up funds for Ole Gunnar Solskajer to invest in other positions.
A pre-emptive strike?
United star Eric Bailly performed a surprise U-turn and penned fresh terms with the club on Monday.
A centre-back was also on the agenda ahead of the transfer window. With Bailly now committing his future to the club, it remains to be seen if more money will be allocated to strengthening forward areas.
Whether the Ivorian’s extension is the club preparing for Cavani’s exit or not remains to be seen.
