Manchester United will face competition from Paris Saint-Germain for Cristiano Ronaldo
According to Italian publication Tuttosport, Manchester United will face competition from Paris Saint-Germain for Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Portuguese legend’s future at Juventus has been called into question given their sub-par performances this season. The Turin giants have struggled under Andrea Pirlo and face a fight on their hands to secure a top-four finish.
They are currently in the fourth spot, ahead of AC Milan on goal difference. With them still to play the Rossonerri in May, the result that night could be pivotal for both teams.
Ronaldo who has won the Champions League with United and Real Madrid has so far drawn a blank with Juventus. The Italians despite their domestic dominance have failed to translate it into continental glory.
According to the report, Juventus will struggle to pay Ronaldo his massive wages if they miss out on Europe’s premier competition. More so, the player himself would not be willing to stick around in such a scenario.
At 36, age appears to be catching up with the former United star. However his 32 goals and four assists in 39 games this season makes a mockery of suggestions that he is far from his best. (h/t Transfermarkt)
A blow for United?
Ronaldo is aware that the older he gets, the more difficult he will find it to secure a sixth European Cup. This has seen him consider moves to both United and PSG.
The French Champions made it to the finals last season and will contest the semifinals of this season’s competition this week. They have increased their profile in the Champions League and could be an addition or two from going all the way.
Also in Paris, Ronaldo would be surrounded by a stellar cast that includes Kylian Mbappe and Neymar. Dare we say, PSG are better positioned than us to win the Champions League. Whether this gives them the advantage remains to be seen.
