“It’s in our DNA” – Solskjaer remains defiant despite Man City advantage in the title race

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer refuses to give up the Premier League title race

According to The Mirror, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer does not believe that his side is too far from challenging for major honours again.

The Red Devils currently trail Manchester City in the Premier League by 11 points and have a game in hand. With just six matches to go, Pep Guardiola’s side hold a massive advantage with little time to outmanoeuvre them.

Having beaten three of this season’s Champions League semifinalists in Chelsea, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, Solskjaer believes his side are on the right track.

“When you sit and watch the games and you know how well you’ve done against these teams, you know we’re not a million miles away.”

The Norwegian believes progress should be made gradually and that his team is doing just that. While we have stepped up against the top sides, there have also been moments where we have thrown away advantages.

A certain level of consistency should be maintained if we are serious about winning the league. Few good performances don’t guarantee results and as we have seen from Liverpool and Manchester City, a consistent run of good results will only do the trick.

“Third last year, second this year, close to a trophy. It’s progress. It’s not the end game – the end game is winning the league.”

Hoping for the impossible!

Repeating what Sir Alex Ferguson managed was always going to be difficult and Solskjaer is well aware of it. Although we may not be where we want, he believes the progress is clear to see.

“Manchester United will never, ever give up. This club has had too many setbacks and too many great comebacks to give up. It’s in our DNA.”

Although he admits it is unlikely that City will drop enough points for United to overtake them, he has refused to throw in the towel.

“Is it realistic? No, probably not.”

Solskjaer sure talks a good game and knows how to say the right things. While looking at the past is well and good, we will need more than nostalgia to see us get back to the top. Whether the Norwegian can put us back at the pinnacle remains to be seen.
