AC Milan to discuss the future of Diogo Dalot with Manchester United

According to the Italian publication Gazzetta Dello Sport (h/t Sport Witness), AC Milan is set to discuss the future of Diogo Dalot with Manchester United.

The 22-year-old is currently on a season-long loan at the San Siro. He has so far made 25 appearances for them scoring two goals and assisting three more. (h/t Transfermarkt)

With his deal running out, a decision has to be made regarding his future. While Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has not closed the door on his time at United, it remains far from certain.

While Dalot has been far from an automatic first choice, his versatility has been a boon for the Italian giants. Capable of playing on either flank, the 22-year-old is a worthwhile talent.

Milan boss Stefano Pioli has often used Dalot at left-back when Theo Hernandez wasn’t available. The player’s versatility is being touted as a reason why Milan want him to stick around.

While not a standout, Milan is still keen to discuss the future of a player who contributed to their success. As per the report, they are seeking more guarantees in order to keep him.

Diogo Dalot is likely to return to Manchester United once his loan spell at AC Milan ends.

While it may not explain much, it could indicate that they are willing to take him on loan for another season. Only this time, the deal would include an option to buy.

With his contract running until 2023, Dalot still has two years left at United. The Red Devils are on the lookout for a new right-back to compete with Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Whether Dalot can be that man remains to be seen.

As of yet, Dalot has failed to show what he can do in United colours. It will be interesting to see whether his time out in Italy has seen him evolve as a player.
