Transfer News: Manchester United to rekindle interest in Sergej Milinkovic-Savic
According to Italian publication Gazzetta Dello Sport (h/t Sport Witness), Manchester United are still interested in Serbian international Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
The Red Devils were linked with the 26-year-old heading into last summer’s transfer window. A year on, he still continues to capture the club’s fancy.
Seen as a replacement for Paul Pogba, United’s interest in him is understandable given the Frenchman’s situation.
Pogba’s resurgence in form had seen rumours linking us to Milinkovic-Savic go on the down-low. The Red Devils do have other positions to strengthen but may be forced to look at the midfielder if Pogba does leave.
We are however not the only team in the fray for the 26-year-old. Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are also keeping tabs on the player and could prove to be a hurdle in our efforts to sign him.
Milinkovic-Savic’s contract at Lazio runs until 2024 and they are in no rush to sell him. The player himself recently admitted that his current focus is on staying put at Lazio.
Champions League dreams!
Lazio are currently in the sixth spot in Serie-A. With the race for the Champions League spots set to go down to the wire, it could make or break our opportunity to land the Serbian.
Milinkovic-Savic is looking at clubs who are in the top tier competition and United certainly fit the agenda. The Red Devils have all but assured themselves of a top-four finish with the win over Tottenham Hotspur.

United being linked to the top talents across Europe is nothing new. For now, the interest in Milinkovic-Savic appears to be far from conclusive. Whether it will change developing on what Pogba decides to do remains to be seen.
With seven goals and 10 assists in 35 apparances this season, the 26-year-old is certainly worth the hype. He has also won 21 caps for Serbia scoring three goals. (h/t Transfermarkt)
