Solskjaer: Edinson Cavani yet to make a decision on his Manchester United future
According to the club’s official website, Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has spilt the beans regarding the future of Edinson Cavani.
The 34-year-old joined the club on deadline day last summer. His current deal expires in June and he is yet to sign an extension.
Cavani has continued to be linked with a move to Argentine superclub Boca Juniors in the summer. Former United star Marcos Rojo now at Boca revealed recently that the player has indeed held conversations regarding a potential switch.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Solskjaer remains in touch with Cavani and is keen to keep lines of communication open. As of yet, he is yet to make a call on his future.
“I have kept in touch with Edi and we keep an open dialogue. He’s still unsure what he wants to do next season, which is fine.”
While not an automatic first XI player, Cavani’s presence has been pivotal for United. With Anthony Martial struggling for form, Cavani has had to step in and make a difference on numerous occasions.
No slacking off!
United meanwhile remain keen to extend the veteran striker’s stay at Old Trafford. Solskjaer has been an ardent admirer of the player’s impact at the club. Given the year everyone has had, the Norwegian remains patient with the player despite his future resembling a closed book.
“It has not been an easy year – either for him or the rest of the world so he still wants time to make his mind up.”
Solskjaer, however, does not believe Cavani’s indecision will in any way impact his commitment on the field. With the season nearing to a close, the 34-year-old still may have a difference to make.
“I’m very sure we will get the good version of Edinson for the rest of the season. He knows this is the business end of the season.”
